Response to Ryan O'Leary's Post: Carrie Underwood-An Idol for HSUS

In his last blog, Ryan O'Leary addressed Carrie Underwood's endorsement for HSUS and its wide success. As well known country singer, Carrie Underwood helps HSUS inform the public about the responsibilities of being a pet owner and promotes the spaying and neutering these animals. Ryan then turns to point out that although she grew up on a small farm in Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood is now a vegan. Also, the endorsement of HSUS means she supports the legislation HSUS is trying to pass that will hurt farms. The website Ryan refers to, The Humane Society of the United States’ home page, gives relevant information pertaining to the adoption and caretaking of pets, as well as relevant issues concerning animal rights.
Ryan gives examples how Carrie Underwood has helped to support HSUS since the beginning of the endorsement. In the second paragraph, he says Carrie Underwood should not endorse HSUS because she is promoting legislation that harmful to farmers through the organization. Ryan believes it does not make sense for Carrie Underwood to stray away from her roots of farming and support HSUS. Ryan makes a valid argument and I agree that the endorsement is a little hypocritical by Carrie Underwood. However, Ryan does not make an effort to say whether or not she is aware of HSUS's support of a program that will be a detriment to farmers. He also remains vague on how or when this proposed movement will harm farms. I believe Ryan should have provided more information about this legislation that HSUS supports in order to determine if Carrie Underwood's endorsement of the organization was a poor choice.
