In his blog, “Why Process Water?” Jake points out the disadvantages of bottled water. One of the articles Jake refers to lists five reasons why bottled water is bad. These reasons include how it is unhealthy for the environment, is more expensive than tap water, and is of comparable quality to tap water.
Jake’s opinions are both clear and convincing. This leads me to wonder why more people refuse to drink tap water and save the environment. Like Jake, I grew up drinking water from a well at my family’s farm. There is no comparison to this water, both in taste and quality. When moving to Madison, I also resorted to drinking bottled water for some time until I bought a reusable water bottle and got used to the taste. It does not make any sense for people who have access to clean tap water to rely on bottled water. Bottled water should be used only in cases where there is no fresh source of safe drinking water. Money that is being used to process bottled water could go towards improving a city’s water quality and providing millions of people around the world with access to water that do not have it right now.
