My persuasive speech for LSC 100 promoted the new health care reform bill and gave reasons for why it should be supported. The speech was about five minutes and thirty seconds and of an appropriate topic. Being able to base the speech off of my persuasive paper made the speech easier to outline since I already had the information.
The introduction of my speech gave background information surrounding health care and outlines the new health care reform bill. I clearly state that the bill should be supported and then listed reasons both for and against the bill. Memorizing the introduction would have made it more personable and grabbed the class’s attention better.
During the body of my speech I gave two reasons supporting the new health care bill and their counter arguments with facts for each. I had proper speaking volume, but should have made more eye contact with the audience. There was one place where the transition to the next slide did not coincide with my speech, causing a slight break in the pace.
My visual aid, a slide show, consisted of an introduction slide, a slide for every argument and one for every counterargument, as well as two conclusion slides. They outlined the speech well and followed the six-by-six rule the majority of the time.
I ended with a well stated conclusion that summarized both arguments and then offered a rebuttal for both. The conclusion included an excerpt from a speech by President Obama about why there needs to be a reform. Finally, I restated my supportive stance of the new health care reform bill and why it needs to be supported.
